We aim to preserve and promote Skelmersdale's farming and coal mining heritage and exhibit all aspects of local history at various points around the town, particularly to the younger generation and the influx of new residents since the town's major development.
He was a Trade Unionist who had the respect of all. When he died the funeral procession included brass bands and dignitaries from all the surrounding districts and further afield. His funeral was delayed to the evening so that working miners could pay their respects. A true champion of the working man unlike some today. There is a plaque in his memory on Wigan Infirmary entrance wall.
